Regan Dunn stellar in the circle, Lady Gobblers fall to Beeville

Strikeouts and missed opportunities filled the Lady Gobbler’s 13-inning, 1-0 defeat to district-foe Beeville on March 28. A pitcher’s duel does not do the evening justice as Cuero’s Regan Dunn and Beeville’s Aaliyah Ruiz were masterful throughout the game.

“You cannot question the effort that was out on the softball field by either team,” head Coach Cody Miller said following the three and a half hour game. “It was a battle for 13 innings, the longest game I’ve even been involved in as a head coach. They got one big hit, and we weren’t able to make the play. That’s just the way the game is.”

Cuero will face Beeville again April 13 and most likely have another shot at their ace pitcher.

Gamez makes commitment official

Autumn Gamez concluded her high school volleyball career with a trip to the regional quarterfinals, but there are still more kills and aces to be attained in her future. The soon-to-be Lady Gobbler graduate will continue her volleyball career in college at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.

During her time in Cuero, Gamez notched 527 kills, 187 blocks, 53 assists, 420 digs and 57 aces. Beyond the numbers, though, her passion to play always resonated within the Lady Gobbler volleyball program.

“She means everything to us,” varsity volleyball coach Whitney Coles stated as she held back tears at Gamez’s signing. “There’s nobody else that has the kind of fight and tenacity she has. She’ll run through a wall if you ask her to. She’s played literally every position. She’s selfless and does whatever she’s asked, and that’s gonna be very hard to replace.”

Gobblers blank Panthers behind combined no-hitter

Jared Barta, Jeremiah Diaz and Payton Walk combined for a no-hitter in the Gobblers’ 7-0 win over Aransas Pass Tuesday, March 7. Barta earned the win, only allowing two walks in his four innings while striking out two Panther batters.

“They throw strikes,” coach Phil Schwarz said of his pitchers. “The one thing that’s been consistent all year is our pitching. We got about seven guys that can throw strikes and let the defense work. That’s one of the biggest strengths of our team.”

Senior second baseman Blake Grahmann went two for two at the plate with a double, a walk and two runs scored.

Memorable basketball season for Lady Gobblers

Another season of Lady Gobbler basketball is in the books. Although it did not finish with a win, it was memorable nonetheless. Most notably, this Cuero team captured an undefeated district title for the first time since 2010.
