Candace Lewis

Candace Monique Lewis, age 31, went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 27, 2017. She was born in Cuero, Texas Dec. 23, 1985. She was the daughter of David and Pauline Walker. Candace graduated from Cuero High School and Kaplan College in San Antonio as a Phlebotomist. She loved music, traveling, helping people, and most of all taking care of Sha’Nell. She was a very loving and caring person; and she would help anybody.

She is survived by her parents David and Pauline Walker; brother Brandon Williams, sister Brittney Walker, grandmother Mary Lee Williams, aunt Susan Edwards, uncle Benny Williams, Jr., aunt Vandy Lewis, Sha’Nell Krump; and numerous cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death her father Ernest Lewis; Grandpa Benny A. Williams and Virgie M. Lewis.

Floyd Grant, Jr.

Floyd Grant, Jr. passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the age of 77. He was born June 17, 1939 to the late Floyd Luther and Ella Mae Hall Grant, Sr. in Gonzalez County.

Floyd is survived by his son Rev. Charles Allen Grant, his daughters Vickie Mechelle Kitchen, Pamela Elaine Turner, and Gail Garnett Grant; his brother Calvin Grant; sisters Rachel Bell Grant and Dorothy Butler; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughters Phyllis Ann Grant and Diane Denice Grant; brothers Frankie Grant, Claudy Grant, S.K. Grant, and Eugene Grant; sisters Willie Hardeman, Charlene Kent, and Erma Mae Hunter; and two great-grandchildren Jaylen Taylor and Mariah Walker.

Carmel Buchel

Carmel Maxine Buchel, 89, of Cuero passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017. She was born June 14, 1927 in Fal, Louisiana to Huebert and Lula Ray McDonald. Carmel married Fred T. Buchel on Nov. 4, 1951 in El Campo.

She is survived by sons, Bruce Buchel and Bill Buchel;  grandchildren, Shane Matthew Buchel, Jeremy Taylor Buchel, Jason Emil Buchel; and great-grandchildren, Shane Andrew Buchel and Monica Lynn Buchel.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Emmitt Ray McDonald and Lula Ray McInnis McDonald; husband Fred T. Buchel; and brother, Emmitt Ray McDonald.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Friday, March 31 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Ater officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shane Andrew Buchel, Monica Lynn Buchel, Jeremy Taylor Buchel and Jason Emil Buchel.

Bill Laqua

Billy “Bill” Wayne Laqua, 64, of Cuero passed away Monday, March 27, 2017. He was born Jan. 8, 1953 in Cuero to the late Lester and Elnora Hilbrich Laqua. Bill married Vicky Juerk in Cuero on July 13, 1977. He was a rancher for the Stiles Cattle Company, Raymond Tate and also worked in the oil field.

Bill loved spending time with his family, grandbabies and friends. He loved to be outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting, BBQ’s, splitting wood and working cattle and gardening. He loved spending time at his sister, Judy’s place watching the wildlife. He liked riding his Harley anytime he could. He was the kind of person who would befriend anyone he met, he never met a stranger. He would always help anyone who was in need of help without a second thought. He loved listening to old rock n roll and old country music. Bill was a simple man that loved and enjoyed life.

Gloria Britsch

Gloria (Dot) Doris Schaefer Britsch, 86, passed away March 12, 2017 in Stephenville, Texas. She was born Nov. 22, 1930 in Cuero.

In her life, Dot, as she was called, loved many things - her family, friends, music, nature and especially little children.

Dot graduated from Cuero High School in the spring of 1948 and entered Texas A&I College in Kingsville in the fall. There she met her future husband, Clinton H. Britsch. They were married on Nov. 25, 1950.

Dot was an active member in the Lutheran Church in Cuero, McAllen, Corpus Christi and Houston.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Fred C. and Blanche Wagner Schaefer and brothers, Walter Carl and Herman Schaefer and her husband, Clinton H. Britsch.

Daniel Varela, Sr.

Daniel Varela, Sr. entered into rest on March 23, 2017 at the age of 62. He was born Oct. 26, 1954 to the late Marcello and Adela Rivera Varela.

He is survived by his wife Juanita (Janie) Varela, son Daniel (Bree) Varela, Jr., and step-son Nabor (Yoli) Barron, Jr.; daughter Danielle (Jo Jo) Courtney Varela Martinez and step-daughter Melissa Cross. He is also survived by his brothers David (Rose Ann) Varela, Johnny (Pat) Varela, and Ricky (Cindy) Varela; and his sisters Mary Clark and Margaret Del La Rosa; as well as 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Marcelo Varela, Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 31 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cuero with Father David Berger, officiating. To leave a comforting message, or to share fond memory, please visit www.gracefuneralhome.net.

Angelene Hilbrich

Angelene Rosalee Baros Hilbrich, 86, of Westhoff passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017. She was born July 14, 1930 to Louise Lukas and William Edward Baros. Angelene was baptized and confirmed at St.John Lutheran Church in Westhoff.  She married Melvin Reuben Hilbrich on Aug. 29, 1953 in Giddings.

She graduated from Cuero High School in 1947 and worked for J.C. Penney Co. as a cashier from 1947 to 1953 and went on to work at Home State Bank, Victoria Bank Shares, Norwest and Wells Fargo Banks from 1959 until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary serving as Vice President and past President. Angelene was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Westhoff and served on the church council and officer of WELCA (Woman of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America).

Judy Brashier

Judy Delores Brashier was born in Trinity, Texas April 21, 1944. She was just 72-years-old when God called her home, in Victoria, Texas on Feb. 23, 2017.

Judy is preceded in death by her husband John Brashier, one son Ronald Franklin, and a daughter Karon Dixon Solis.

Left to treasure her memories are daughter Sharon Walker and Jerry Hensley, grandchildren Christian and Jay Eagan, Shannon and Danny Seanez, Kristopher and Anna-Lisa Gilmore, Jamie and Chris Faerber, Janet and Michael Laurence, Tracie Hensley and Crystal, Kasey and Jason Ballman, Chaz Braisher, Jay and Cathy Luna, Tanya Jo Luna, Jimmy and Debbie Monroe; 16 great-grandchildren.

Judy was retired from TDCJ and served at the Stevenson Unit. She was a care giver for many years.

She loved her family and enjoyed outings and spending time with her family grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a wonderfully high spirit and had fun in every adventure she would go on.

Patricia Gott

Patricia Ann Greer Gott, 80, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017. She was born Aug. 6, 1936 in Zephyr to the late Clyde and Bonnye Greer.

Pat retired from Wells Fargo Bank in Victoria. She was a member of LifeWay Baptist Church and the Cuero Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered many hours at the Wishing Well Gift Shop at Cuero Regional Hospital. Pat enjoyed cooking, baking, working in her flowerbeds and helping others.

She will be remembered as a loving, giving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Audrey Kuecker

Audrey Faye Kuecker, 82, of Cuero passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017. She was born Feb. 25, 1935 in Arneckeville to the late Edmund and Alvina Hausman. Audrey married the late Leebell Kuecker on July 10, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Victoria.

She is survived by her sons, David Kuecker (Marsha) of Kyle, Gary Kuecker (Diane) of Friendswood, Steve Kuecker (Sally) of Victoria and Glen Kuecker (Rochan) of Yoakum; sisters Vernell Berkowvsky (Chuck) of Cuero; grandchildren, Daniel Kuecker (Cherlyn) of Granger, Audrey K. Moore (Marshall) of Austin, Clifton Kuecker of Corpus Christi, Lexi Kuecker of College Station, Vanessa Kuecker of Davila, Brian Kuecker of Austin, Spencer Clements and Stephen Clements both of San Antonio and Alicia R. Kuecker and Sydney N. Kuecker both of Yoakum; and five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Gloria M. Luder; and daughter-in-law, Bernadette Kuecker.
