County using new reverse 911 system

DeWitt County, in collaboration with the cities of Cuero, Yoakum and Yorktown, is now using a new reverse 911 system called Code Red. With the entire county being on the same emergency message system, it will streamline providing critical notifications to everyone in the county.

Previously, the City of Cuero had a reverse 911 system called Blackboard. While they were up upgrading their website, they were offered a new system but have chosen to go with the Code Red system. A grant has been provided to pay for Code Red for the entire county which cost almost $12,000. This was on a reduced cost, because Yoakum was already on Code Red.

“It reduced the overall cost for the County for us all to merge onto one policy,” DeWitt County Emergency Management Coordinator Cyndi Smith stated. “The contract is through the County and has already been paid for. We’re waiting on the grant money to come in to reimburse the County.”

Kids these days...

Gabbie is just getting started

Birthdays are almost always focused on the person having the birthday. The day is all about that person receiving gifts and having fun. One Cuero teenager chose to make the day much bigger than herself and give back to her community.

Cuero High School freshman Gabbie Jalufka, daughter of Gabe and Lynnie Jalufka, decided all on her own to make the day about donating non-perishable food items to the Cuero Area Ministerial Alliance (CAMAL House).
