Juvenile burglary on Garfield Rd.

A 15-year-old juvenile is in detention on multiple charges according to DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office. A land-owner in the 2500 block of Garfield Road reported his residence had been burglarized recently and sheriff’s deputies investigated the report.

Cuero Rodeo July 22-23

The Cuero Livestock Show Board is bringing a Lester Meier Open Pro Rodeo to Cuero for the eighth year on July 22nd and 23rd. The rodeo will be held at the Cuero Rodeo Arena and will start each night at 8 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the gate. Adult tickets will be $10, kids 7-12 will be $5 and kids under 6 will be free. For more information call the DeWitt County Extension office at 361-275-0816. For heart-stopping excitement with a hearty dose of old-fashioned family fun, few things top the Annual Rodeo. One of the top open professional rodeos in the state, the annual Open Professional Rodeo is anticipated each year by contestants and fans alike.

Yorktown EMS receives big donation

Yorktown EMS received a big donation to pay for the LifePak 15 on June 28 from the Krause’s. The donation was given in memory of Herbert Krause, a husband, father and grandfather. GVEC honors Mayor Meyer

The GVEC Annual Meeting was held on June 24 at the Gonzales High School Special Events Center. Either present or by proxy, 977 GVEC members were represented at the meeting. Registration for the meeting began at 5:30 p.m. While waiting for the business meeting to begin, GVEC members enjoyed refreshments, chili dogs, and musical entertainment by The O’Neal Brothers Band. They also had an opportunity to browse the exhibit booth for GVEC subsidiaries, GVEC Home and GVEC.net and speak to Customer Service Representatives about signing up for GVEC’s TextPower service allowing members to report outages by cell phone text message.

Historic Cuero jewelry store

Shown is a historical photograph of a jewelry store located on East Main Street next to The Cuero Record office. It is believed that the picture is from around 1900. The Cuero Heritage Museum is interested in obtaining additional photographs and information on the store and the people in the picture. The Cuero Heritage Museum is always interested in obtaining any information on historic Cuero, its families, buildings, businesses and events. Original documents and photographs can be scanned and returned to the owner. County 4H donates blankets

Cuero Home Health & Cuero Community Hospital would like to thank the DeWitt County 4H programs and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service for their recent donation of fleece blankets for home health patients. Area 4H members were invited to participate in the clothing and textile project. Transgender policy leaves schools on hold

The Obama administration, on May 13, called on public school districts nationwide to allow transgender students to use the bathroom tha tmatches their personal gender identity as a condition for receiving federal funds. On May 31, Lt.Governor Dan Patrick made a statement, “The President’s threat of with holding federal funds is just a threat. By standing together we will demonstrateTexaswill not be threatened or blackmailed by a policy that doesn’t make sense and puts our girls and women at risk.”

Yorktown Public Library offers up to 70 languages

The Yorktown Public Library offers the public the opportunity to learn as many as 70 languages and all is required is a library card. Yorktown librarian Marlo Stansel said, “This on-the-go resource is user friendly and can assist a beginner into becoming a fluent speaker of a different language.” The program, Mango Languages, was made possible by Friends of the Yorktown Public Library funding.

Missionary, professor to give presentation at St. Peter’s

The Rev. Dr. Carolyn Schneider will give a presentation on her ministry and service as a missionary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on Sunday, June 26 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ander. Schneider, who teaches church history at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Hong Kong, will preach at the 9 a.m. worship service and give a presentation in the church’s parish hall following the service.
