Letters to Editor

Dear Editor,

Just a note to let you know some of the “happenings” in the Yorktown Fire Department during the Year of 2016. We completed planning, design, and construction of an additional fire station across the street from the original station. We accomplished this through a very generous donation from BHP Billiton in the amount of $50,000. We also utilized other generous donations from the community and surrounding rural areas. This new building will allow us to store all of our equipment indoors, therefore, having protection from the South Texas elements.

Letters to Editor

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the VFW Post 8136 Auxiliary, we want to thank everyone involved to make our Bunco fundraiser a success. Businesses in Yorktown, Cuero and Victoria supported us through raffle and silent auction items as well as monetary donations. Also, thank you to those individuals who brought care package items and participated in our Bunco. We know we could not do this without you. We are grateful for your support and I know that all the veterans that receive packages, gift cards, etc., appreciate your kind gesture and support.

Christmas in the Park

Thanks to the untiring work of the Community Squad of the Stevenson Unit, the City of Cuero and the December Events Committee, an ad hoc committee of the Cuero Development Corporation, Christmas in the Park will open for the 17th year Monday, Nov. 21 and run through Monday, Jan. 2, 2017 from 6-10 p.m. Several new items have been added and the scene that should create quite a fuss is the Ski Slope Santa. This 66 ft. long by 25 ft. tall should be a show stopper. It is located at the end of the tour as you are exiting the Park.

‘A wonderful evening of entertainment’

Dear Editor,

The CISD Education Foundation sponsored a wonderful evening of entertainment for our community Saturday night, Nov. 12. The Cuero High School Performing Arts Center showed off beautifully. It is a first class auditorium and certainly an asset for our community and area! The Mickey Gilley/Johnny Lee performance was enjoyed by everyone, as there was lots of foot tapping going on. The facility has been long awaited by the Pilot Club of Cuero and the many who have donated to the annual tree lighting ceremony. Now, we have the prize! It is definitely a wonderful prize!

Thank you, Nancy Blackwell
